I have so much to say about Whitney Houston. And the great things I’ve learned about her tonight just make her passing even sadder news.
I just can’t even process Whitney Houston’s death! And I just found out tonight that she was the first African-American to grace the cover of 17 magazine! She wasn’t just a voice. She really was a gift. This has really been one of the roughest Black History Month’s to date. I just send my thoughts and prayers to her mother, daughter, and host of family members and loved ones she leaves behind. I… hadn’t even realized that she was such a part of my life growing up. I used to sing her songs on my karaoke machine. I used to hear her sing the National Anthem every morning on 103 JAMZ as my sister would drive me to school. I wanted to be Whitney. Every pretty brown girl did. I just… this is so sad. I don’t want to talk about the troublesome past, or the reality television show… I just want to remember her for who she was and the gift she left us in her music.
